Dread technology

I don't use rubber bands or string. I use the backcomb and crochet technique for setting. I also use the crochet technique when touching up, sometimes combined with rootrubbing. I prefer not to use any products, but if the hair is very smooth and difficult to knot, I only use vegan products. ​

 

Does installing and maintaining locs hurt?

I'm also thinking about your scalp. I try to keep the pain during installation and touch-ups to a minimum, at most it is sometimes slightly uncomfortable. I have many clients who hardly notice anything except for the sensitive areas near the ears, crown and temples, for example. If you have a sensitive scalp, I try to take extra care and, for example, not to touch up too tightly. In some cases, my clients with extremely sensitive scalps take paracetamol. Please indicate this if you have very sensitive scalp and make sure you are well rested. Fatigue can make you extra sensitive. ​

I charge €42.50 per hour. Based on your wishes, I will estimate the total costs. What should I pay attention to: Style: Type and length of your hair.  Desired dreads thick/thin. With or without bangs/shaved sides/partial dreads. Do/don't crochet dots. Have some loose dreads done. Immediately extend the dreads (see lengthening dreads). Touch-up: Regrowth only, only removing loose hairs, full touch-up session, restoration, crocheting ends, removing bumps, etc. It is also possible to have your edges shaved short again.

 

Want to lengthen your dreads?

Lengthening is a great way to immediately get a beautiful bunch of long dreads. However, the process from short dreads to these long dream dreads is a true adventure. The pride you feel when your dreads have finally reached their dream length after all these years is a wonderful feeling. Your bond with the locomotives will be much stronger / take on a different dimension, everything you have saved is yours and carries a piece of your history. Don't forget that even your long locs will eventually reach a difficult narrowness. Most reach this point somewhere halfway down the lower back. Then a piece has to be cut and you will have to recreate beautiful loose dots, for example. Cutting home-grown dreads is like cutting off a leg, which is why I still haven't done it, haha! ​

 

If you would like to start with a certain length of dreads, there are 2 options:

Use your own dreads you brought with you; synthetic or human hair

• Advantages of synthetic dreads:

  • these are much cheaper than human hair, are suitable as a temporary solution,

  • if your hair is at the right length, you can cut them off or you can go for a different color.

• Disadvantages of synthetic dreads:

  • less natural looking/plastic,

  • Please note that it does not react like normal hair, it does not tangle or otherwise and cannot withstand heat (so you can only blow dry it in lukewarm or cold conditions), stings,

  • in unique cases they can cause allergic reactions,

  • are heavier than human hair,

  • at some point synthetic hair decays and can break off, pulverize and become very hard/straw like

Have human hair extensions made on the spot by me

• You pay the costs for the hair, making the extensions and installing them.

  • I prefer to use second-hand hair, which is cheaper than new hair. I prefer to use this hair, because the origin of human hair is often not fair trade. This is a way to keep things somewhat fair and use the resources for longer, which is also good for the environment. Unfortunately, it will eventually end up in the trash, but this way it will be used to its full potential. I have many colors of these in stock!​

• Advantages:

  • looks natural,

  • they blend well with your own hair,

  • it felts just like real hair,

  • don't prick,

  • can last a long time, ideal as a semi-permanent solution if you have very short hair, for example.

• Cons:

  • The dreads are made and deployed on site, which means the installation process of the dreads + extensions takes extra time. With a full head, think of at least 2/4 days.

  • Possibly longer waiting time for orders of human hair due to custom order (e.g. because your color is not in stock second hand or you prefer new hair). I order the hair for you so that I can start working for you immediately.

  • Newly purchased Human hair is pricey; good quality and special colors such as red tones and gray tones require a lot of money.

  • Human hair extensions also wear out, the cheaper the hair or the lighter/more often treated with dye/bleach, the faster the process. Care also has an influence, such as dyeing, the wrong shampoos, a lot of crocheting, wearing them too tight, etc. Be aware that I have no influence on this.
